Vilo Creations regularly tests their candles for quality assurance. Every new scent and container is scrutinized before it gets added to the line. For example, we conduct a "wick test" with each new fragrance blend or container that we introduce to our line to ensure that the wick burns evenly through the candle without tunneling through the middle or emitting excessive carbon buildup. This involves making identical candles with several different wick sizes and evaluating the burn process hour by hour over a period of 12-16 hours. Additionally, we have formulated our own custom was blend to lessen the traditional flaws of soy wax such as "frosting" or pulling away from the glass containers.

In contrast to typical commercially made candles that use paraffin, we use only 100% natural, American-grown soybean wax for Vilo candles. Soy wax is the hydrogenated form of the vegetable oil that comes from soybeans. After harvesting, the beans are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled, and rolled into flakes. The oil is then extracted from the flakes and hydrogenated. The remaining bean husks are then used as animal feed.

Additionally, the raw materials are shipped to Vilo via carbon neutral shipping. This means that each purchase helps to fund projects that either remove CO2 from the atmosphere or keep it from being released (e.g. wind farms, reforestation efforts, etc).
